Krav Maga Glossary

Aggressor - The individual that poses the threat to the operator

Attacker - Alternate term for Aggressor


Awareness Drill - Used to develop reflexes and adaptation


Combatives - Ballistic attacks we use to neutralize a threat


Combo - Specific combatives linked together to form various combinations


Cross - A straight punch thrown with the rear hand


Defensive Tactics - Methods we use to deflect, intercept, or evade an oncoming attack


Fatigue Drill - Simulates energy depletion you feel in an actual confrontation


Hook -  A horizontal punch using a short lateral movement of the arm and fist, with the elbow bent and the wrist turned slightly inward at the moment of impact, typically thrown with the lead hand


Inside Defense - A horizontal sweep with a vertical forearm from the same side as the attack, typically against a straight attack


Jab - A straight punch thrown with the lead hand


Krav Maga - Hebrew for "contact combat"


Operator - The individual using Krav Maga techniques


Outside Defense  (a.k.a. 360°  Outside Defense) -  An outward strike with the forearm toward the same side and perpendicular to the attack, typically against a peripheral attack


Reflexive Cover - A structural defense used to absorb blows to the head and body


Retzef - Hebrew for "combination of strikes" - a continuous and aggressive combat motion


Self Defense - An attack is initiated to you and puts you in a position of disadvantage


Stress Drill - Acclimates us to the sudden shock of being attacked


Uppercut -  A vertical punch using a short upward movement of the arm and fist, with the elbow bent and the wrist turned slightly inward at the moment of impact
